A symposium with the theme:
Fragility/Vulnerability and Cinema will be held on Saturday, September 23 at Gas Station Arts
Center, 445 River Avenue Winnipeg at 9 am.
This year's AM-FM symposium broadly explores fragility/vulnerability in African cinemas and beyond. Fragility/vulnerability is a complex idea that raises, among other things, moral questions about precarity and suffering. The theme-when considered in both the context of
African cinema and the broader culture and society-presents an opportunity for us to think together about the broad yet contextual conditions and processes of fragility/vulnerability especially concerning historical and contemporary racial, gendered, social, political, economic, and ecological realities. This year's symposium will host a keynote lecture and a panel discussion with speakers from different fields including academia, cinema, and community organization.
