Leyla BOUZID (Leyla Bouzid), was born in 1984 in Tunis, where she grew up. In 2003, she left for Paris to study French literature at the Sorbonne before studying filmmaking at La Fémis. She directed her graduation film, "Shudders", in 2011 and "Zakaria" in 2013. In 2015, her first feature film, "As I Open My Eyes", was awarded at the Venice Film Festival before being selected by many international festivals. "A Tale of Love and Desire" (2021) is her second feature film.

Leyla BOUZID (Tunis, 1984) moved to Paris in 2003, at 18 years old, to study French literature at the Sorbonne University and then attended La Fémis, the French National Film School, to study directing. She directed Soubresauts (Mkobbi Fi Kobba), her thesis film, in Tunisia, a few months before the revolution. Her graduate short film won the Jury prize in students films category in Premiers Plans (Angers, France) in 2012.
She then chose to direct Zakaria [2013] in the south of France with non-professional actors. These two short films received a very warm welcome in festival in France and abroad.

LEYLA BOUZID (Tunisi, 1984) nel 2003 si trasferisce a Parigi per studiare, prima, letteratura francese alla Sorbona e, di seguito, regia alla Fémis. Nel 2011 dirige il film di diploma, Mkhobbi fi kobba, a Tunisi, pochi mesi prima della rivoluzione. Successivamente decide di girare nel sud della Francia con attori non professionisti, Zakaria. Questi due cortometraggi ricevono numerosi premi e una calda accoglienza nei festival francesi e internazionali. À peine j'ouvre les yeux [2015] è la sua opera prima.
