Kofi Bentum Quantson was born in Axim in 1934 and attended Clayborn College, Sekondi, Wesley College, Kumasi, and the University of Ghana, Legon. He worked as features editor for the Ghanaian Times before joining the Special Branch of the Ghana Police Service, rising to become its director in 1979, a position he retained when the Special Branch became the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).
He retired in 1989 as the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), but was recalled to duty to establish the Narcotics Control Board (NCB), of which he became the Executive Secretary. From 1997 to 2001, he doubled as the National Security Co-ordinator.
On March 6th 1997, Mr Quantson was awarded the state honour of the Companion of The Order of The Volta (Civil Division). He has recorded his work experiences in several books, including Chapters From A Career, later re-issued as Ghana: Peace and Stability.
He has also written on drug abuse in a collection, Cocaine Hits Drug Family. His concerns for the security and stability for the country has led him to write other books, such as National Security: The Dilemma. Kofi Quantson has also recorded his travel experiences worldwide in the book Travelling and Seeing. His other works include The Fury of The Prophet.
