We are in 1939 in a small village in the Aurès..... A young and attractive French schoolteacher, Claire Boyer, arrives and takes a great fondness for a local kid, the nice Mahmoud, who is lively and boisterous..... But the atmosphere in general is not the most reassuring; hints of racism and intolerance linger between the two communities, exacerbated by a few French officials.
