Spectacles. Speculations… is a contemporary art exhibition that takes an experimental approach to coming to terms with the aesthetic and political roles images play in contemporary experience - especially those inherited via mass media, advertising and the Internet. The exhibition reflects on various visual, auditory and gestural image-making technologies, processes and mediums - i.e., photography, video, text, sound, black box theatre, computer-aided design, installation, sculpture, and spoken word poetry.
Spectacles. Speculations… features works by fourteen artists based in Africa, Latin America and Europe who are, in respective ways, intervening in their chosen image-making technologies of artistic expression in response to cultural as well as geo-political issues.
