Oumar is one of the thousands rice farmers in the area "Office du Niger", a site developed during the colonization time to ensure food security in the Sahelian regions of the French empire in West Africa. Oumar must deal with a land that is impoverished each year, with inappropriate structural adjustment policies and the unfair competition from Asian rice. Overwhelmed by debts and taxes, he can barely feed his family. Will he survive still for a long time?

Oumar è uno dei migliaia di risicoltori della zona "Office du Niger" sito che, durante la colonizzazione, ha visto una forte pianificazione agricola per garantire la sicurezza alimentare nelle regioni Saheliane dell'impero francese dell'Africa Occidentale.
Oumar deve affrontare numerosi ostacoli: una terra che si impoverisce di anno in anno, le inadeguate politiche di aggiustamento strutturale e la concorrenza sleale del riso asiatico.
Prostrato dai debiti che si accumulano e dalle tasse che deve pagare, arriva appena a sfamare la sua famiglia. Riuscirà a sopravvivere ancora per molto?
