The new family code, worked out in reference to the laws of Islam, but with standards quite close to Western ones, was promulgated at the beginning of the parliament session in Morocco, which shook the whole country. Laws dedicated to men's supremacy over women previously governed the personal status in Morocco.
The philosophy of the new text is mainly based on gender-equality. Through Rachida's story, a beaten wife in the process of getting a divorce, and Nadia's, a single mother expecting her child to be legally recognized, we show the genesis of this genuine ideological revolution.
