Mbanick, der Sohn des sterbenden Marabuts, wagt es, die Geister herauszufordern und gibt dem Dorf die Sonne zurück. Mbanick kann darauf Maxoy seine Liebe gestehen. Sein bester Freund und Rivale, Yatma, ist rasend vor Schmerz und geht bis zum Mord. Für ihn beginnt ein anderer Fluch. Diese Geschichte ist interessant, weil sie zeigt, dass Charakter nicht ein für alle Mal festgelegt und bestimmt sind. Maxoy beispielsweise geht vom Hass zum Verständnis und von der Rache zur Liebe über. Sie akzeptiert schliesslich Yatmas Mord, denn er ist der Beweis seiner Liebe.
