The epic tale of two pygmies brought to Europe at the end of the 19th century. Captured by a white hunter and subsequently ‘lent' to the scientific community for study, they are put on exhibit at the London zoo.


In 1870, in Central Africa, the Scottish anthropologist Jamie Dodd and his associate Elena Van Den Ende kidnap two pigmies, Toko and Likola, and bring them in Europe. Together with his colleagues Alexander Auchinleck and Fraser McBride Jamie Dodd is looking for the missing link, and they believe that Africans might be the connection between man and monkey. Progressively Jamie Dodd becomes convinced of the intelligence the pigmies, but his colleagues refuse to abandon their theory. They imprison Jamie Dodd and travel with the pigmies to exhibit them to the European intellectual world. Jamie Dodd tries unsuccessfully to bring the pigmies back to Africa …

In 1870 ontvoeren de Schotse antropoloog Jamie Dodd en zijn partner Elena Van Den Ende twee pygmeeën uit Centraal-Afrika, Toko en Likola, en brengen hen naar Europa. Samen met zijn twee collega's Alexander Auchinleck en Fraser McBride voert Jamie onderzoek uit naar de missing link. Ze zijn overtuigd dat de Afrikanen de schakel vormen tussen mens en aap. Jamie Dodd ziet bewijsgrond voor intelligentie in het koppel pygmeeën, maar zijn partners willen hun theorie niet verlaten. Ze sluiten Jamie op en gaan op reis met de pygmeeën om hen te tonen aan Europese intellectuelen. Jamie probeert hen tevergeefs naar Afrika terug te brengen …
