Déou, a Togolese student living in Dakar, returns home to undergo following the wishes of his father the traditional circumcision ceremony. To protect himself against possible contamination by Aids or other sexually transmissible diseases, Déou asks that measures of hygiene be respected. How will this request be perceived by other members of the community? Can Déou be initiated and become a man amongst his family without fearing for his physical integrity?
