The story of two lower-middle class women trying to survive with their dreams in 1980's Egypt.

The story of the friendship between Camilia, a divorced and sterile city woman dreaming of independence, and Hind, a widow from the rural world who wants to return to her native village. Both are servants in middle-class families. They courageously endure the exploitation of their parents and futilely try to find a way out in a second marriage. It is only when Hind gives birth to a little girl, whom Camilia names Ahlan ("Dreams"), that the strength of the bond which unites them asserts itself against everything.
