CHRONICLES OF MY VILLAGE is the story of Bachir's childhood during the Algerian war of independence. The film considers how a child's innocence, curiosity and dreams can play alongside the struggles of a country in search of its own identity.

A village in Algeria, towards the end of the French-Algerian war of independence. The war itself rages beyond the mountains, but it does affect life in the village. The bright, naive young Bachir dreams that his father, whom he hasn't seen for some time, is a freedom fighter. He heard that as a martyr's son he will be privileged, but his friendship with a French soldier complicates matters. For this story about the search for identity, Traïdia was inspired by his Algerian childhood.

Een dorp in Algerije, tegen het eind van de Algerijnse onafhankelijkheidsoorlog. De strijd zelf woedt achter de bergen, maar heeft wel zijn weerslag op het dorpsleven. De pientere, naïeve jonge Bachir droomt dat zijn vader, die hij lang niet heeft gezien, een vrijheidsstrijder is. Hij heeft gehoord dat hij als martelaarskind bevoorrecht zal zijn, maar zijn vriendschap met een Franse soldaat maakt alles ingewikkeld. Voor dit verhaal over het zoeken naar identiteit liet Traïdia zich inspireren door zijn Algerijnse jeugd.

Los acontecimientos suceden en una aldea argelina durante la Guerra de Argelia. Bashir, un niño de 10 años, desearía ser hijo de un mártir, ya que los hijos de mártires tienen, supuestamente, grandes futuros. Para lograr su objetivo, Bashir se prepara incluso para sacrificar a su padre -que abandonó a la familia hace 5 años- y a su amigo convertido en enemigo contra su propio país; Francois, el soldado francés.

The events take place in an Algerian village during the Algerian War. Bashir a 10-year-old boy wishes he were the son of a martyr since sons of martyrs supposedly have great futures. To achieve his goal, Bashir even prepares to sacrifice his father -who abandoned the family 5 years ago- and his friend-turned-enemy against his own country; Francois, the French soldier.
