Present-day Chad. Adam, sixty something, a former swimming champion, is pool attendant at a smart N'Djamena hotel. When the hotel gets taken over by new Chinese owners, he is forced to give up his job to his son Abdel. Terribly resentful, he feels socially humiliated.
The country is in the throes of a civil war. Rebel forces are attacking the government. The authorities demand that the population contribute to the "war effort", giving money or volunteers old enough to fight off the assailants. The District Chief constantly harasses Adam for his contribution. But Adam is penniless; he only has his son....

De zestig jarig Adam, voormalig zwemkampioen, is badmeester in het chique N'Djamena hotel. Wanneer het hotel wordt overgenomen door nieuwe Chinese eigenaren, wordt Adam gedwongen zijn baan over te dragen aan zijn zoon Abdel. Hij voelt zich vernederd en afgewezen.

Het land (Tjaad) staat aan het begin van een burgeroorlog. Rebellen vallen de overheid aan. De autoriteiten verplichten de bevolking bij te dragen aan de strijd door geld te geven of door vrijwilligers in te zetten die oud genoeg zijn om tegen de rebellen te vechten. Het districtshoofd vraagt Adam naar zijn bijdrage voor de oorlog. Maar Adam heeft geen geld, hij heeft alleen zijn zoon…

Arbetet som poolskötare är hans liv - till den dag då sonen plötsligt tar hans jobb. Samtidigt står det redan krigshärjade landet än en gång inför våldsamma stridigheter och rebellgrupper närmar sig. Myndigheterna hetsar alla att bidra till kampen mot rebellerna. En man som skriker vann jurypriset vid Cannesfestivalen 2010 och utsågs till vinnande film på Cinemafrica 2011. Filmen vaggar oss försiktigt in i en behaglig vardagslunk för att sedan kasta oss ut i tyst och klaustrofobisk förskräckelse. Med sin senaste film befäster Mahamat-Saleh Haroun sin position som en av Afrikas mest intressanta filmskapare idag.

Adam, un ex campeón de natación, es el encargado de la piscina de uno de los grandes hoteles de Yamena. El hotel pasa a manos de unos dueños chinos y Adam se ve obligado a dejar el puesto a su hijo Abdel. El país está sumido en una guerra civil. Los rebeldes atacan al gobierno y las autoridades piden a la población que contribuya con dinero o hijos en edad de luchar. Pero Adam no tiene dinero, sólo tiene a su hijo.
