This film is a portrait of Paris as seen by Souleymane, an 18-year-old refugee from Darfur. After arriving in France after a traumatic journey of five long years, the "city of light" of which he had dreamed, far from meeting his expectations, inflicts new hardships on him. The harshness of the situations is matched by its bitter-sweet poetry. Following Souleymane, the film traces the migrants' journey through Paris: the street encampments, the endless queues in front of the authorities, the police raids and the mobilisation of local residents to help the refugees. The camera bears witness to the metamorphosis of a city and shows us the emergence of new internal borders: kilometres of fencing to make the alleys under the metro bridge inaccessible, stones to prevent migrants from lying down, rounds of guards to dislodge them.
