Okacha Touita (عكاشة تويتة), born June 1, 1943 in Mostaganem, Algeria, is an Algerian actor, director and screenwriter. After training at the IFC from 1968 to 1970, Okacha Touita worked as an assistant and actor before directing two short films: "Classe Normale", then "Rue Tartarin". Shown in Cannes in 1980, "Rue Tartarin" already focuses on the theme of "The Sacrifices", his first feature film which is also the most striking. In the Nanterre slum in the Paris suburbs, "Les Sacrifies" shows a lesser known side of the Algerian war: that of the bloody settling of scores between "Frontists" of the FLN and "Messalists" of the MNA. He won the 1982 Georges Sadoul Prize and Special Jury Mention and Audience Prize at the Orléans Cinematographic Days 82 and at the Venice Film Festival in 1982.

After the film "Le Rescapé" (1986), still in the heart of the war but in Algeria this time, "Le Cri des Hommes" features the questions of two police friends, one Algerian and the other of Italian, at a time when the army took control of the police services and the violence of the repression against independence activists increased. Controversial, "Le Cri des Hommes" had to wait until 1999 to be released in theaters. Since then, Okacha Touita has directed a medium-length film and written two screenplays, "L'Afghan" in 2000 and "L'Affaire Maillot" in 2001. These are in addition to his adaptation of "Le Fleuve" adapted by Rachid Mimouni which he has long hoped to bring to the screen.
